Location errors

Go to Places View. Find the pin labeled "Godrevy" and make the diameter of the circle much much smaller.

Wherever i put the pin on the map 'Godrevy' is added to the location. For example..... (copied from location box after pin is dropped)

Godrevy, Sheffield, England, United Kingdom

Godrevy, London Borough of Hackney, London, England, United Kingdom

Clumber Park, Godrevy, England, United Kingdom

I think Kirby has found the problem - spot on. 😎 Does the "Godrevy" label vanish, when you zoom in onto other places on the map? The labels are dynamic and change, depending on the zoom level. When zoomed out, you'll see the most general label, and if your "Godrevy" radius encompasses all of England, you'll see this label everywhere, until you zoom in onto another place. Then you should be able to see other labels.

Use the search field in "Places" to really check all instances of "Godrevy"s. Sometimes multiple instances are created, if you do not suceed the first time to add the place, and then it may exists more than once with different diameters.

What does "Godrevy" look like? I love lighthouses 😁

I have the same problem. How do I make the diameter of the circle much much smaller? If I click on the circle it just dissapears...

Hi Erkki,

Not sure what you are seeing. Can you zoom the map out so you see the entire circle? There should be a sizing control (double-headed arrow) on the circumference of the circle.

I have never seen missing resize controls on the location circle. So I can only speculate.

When controls are missing from the GUI,

1. my first suspect are broken Preference files,
2. and the second wrong dynamic libraries.

The first can be fixed by trashing the User preferences and the second by reinstalling Aperture or the system.

i.e., the paragraphs: "Delete the user preferences" and "Reinstall Aperture".

Erkki -- Sorry -- I'm getting intermittent updates to the ASC (currently have a fast connection -- problem not on my end).

Before deleting your prefs, try clicking the central dark blue dot at a few different magnifications. If that does not make the resizing handles show on the circumference of the circle, move forward with the steps recommended by Léonie.

I have gone through the "Repair permissions" and "Repair Database" and deleted the preferences file (btw, I can't find "com.apple.Aperture.plist" - I only find "com.apple.RegAperture.plist"). No effect so far.

Btw, I only get the circle by writing "cesis" in the search-field and clicking on "cesis, latvia". The moment I do something like click anywhere or trying to resize the map the circle dissapears. So there is no way to do anything to it. Is there any way to delete a location? It seems to me that this location has been somehow created by me.

"Cesis" below this one is the correct town of Cesis in Latvia and only gives a blue pin as it should.

So is reinstalling Aperture the next move?

Then you have been looking in the wrong library - that file is stored in the System Library and not the user Library.

The user library is hidden by default, and you need to open it from the "go" menu like described here:

Delete the user preferences

You can resolve many issues by restoring Aperture back to its original settings. This will not impact your image files or your library. To reset your Aperture user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

1. Quit Aperture.
2. In the Finder choose Go to folder from the Go menu.
3. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
4. Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.

Note: The locations of your Aperture libraries are stored in the preference file listed above. If you have stored your library outside the default location of ~/Pictures/Aperture Library, make a note of where the library is, before deleting the Aperture preferences file. If you have more than one library, you can bring up a dialog to choose which one to load by pressing Option immediately after you open Aperture.

Don't omit the "~" in front of ~/Library/Preferences. The "~" is the shorthand for your home folder. Otherwise you'll open the System Library.

After removing the preferences log off and on again, before relaunching Aperture.

If you removed "com.apple.RegAperture.plist", put it back, if you still have it. Othermise you may have to enter your serial number again.

Thanks, you are right - I fotgot about the "~" so got in wrong. However I removed "com.apple.Aperture.plist" from the Preferences folder now but the problem persists.

Anyway now I seem to have found the solution, which is quite obvious (maybe I just didn't understand your advice). I have all the time been looking at "Places" i.e. what you get when you click on the small "world" top-right on the screen. However now I found "Metadata" => "Manage my Places" where you have all the controls. I simply deleted the "cesis, latvia" place which solved the problem.
