I cant sync my contacts with google!

card dav is the only way now. did you follow these instructions and if you did - what happened.

Does not matter if device is 3gs. Just in case try to make sure you update it to 6.1.3. Once you added card dav and add contact on the phone, does it sync to other device or google?

I have almost the same problem: iPhone 5, 6.1.4. CardDAV set up. Syncs from Google to iPhone but not the other way. Thanks for help.

yours is simple - open contacts and make sure that only google contacts group is checked. You are adding those contacts on the phone to another group, that is why it does not go to google.

This morning, I added iCloud, and the contacts I've entered into my iPhone showed up in the iCloud backup, but the Google contacts did not. Thanks.

You really want to stay with one or another, otherwise you are going to have fun. And you are correct with that new detail you added you also need to go to Settings-mail/contacts/calendars. Scroll down until you see line under contacts- says "default contacts". Want to stay with icloud - leave it like that, want to go to Google change it to Google. Want to stay with both, prepare yourself to have conflicts. Enjoy the weekend.

Delete and re add card dav account

Verify default is google

Verify that correct google calendar is checked

If it still only works one way- you got another conflict on the phone, I don't know about.

Either you find that conflict, or restore phone and set up again.

Still doesn't work, fromsouth. I guess I'll have to go the Bill Gates route and reset it all. Where do I find the detailed instructions for the phone that might help me find the conflict? On-line? On the phone?

As far as looking for the conflict. Google is your friend if you want to search, problem is even if I had your phone in my hands there still a chance I would not find it. That is why I introduced restore option (kind of like your Windows computer stopped do what it suppose to and you call IT guy and after half an hour of questions he just goes -OK it is going to be 90 bucks and I just reinstall your Windows.) Apple made it easy with restore, you can start over anytime. Or if you want it fast just erase and set up again. You ll lose all your info, but phone works great again, until it messed up.

You can also try Google or apple support, may have to pay for it. Good thing with apple is they ll refund if problem isn't fixed, don't know about Google. Hear that there pretty smart guys, surely smarter then me.

Thanks. Big "a ha" here: Upload for new contacts is working now as it should - thanks for your help! A derivative problem: Contacts I'd entered into my phone before are still not uploading? Is there a different fix for that? (BTW, I have now found the manual for the phone.) What is the "import contacts for SIM" about?

Since you got the manual I am going to ask you to answer those two questions.

1. why previously entered contacts are not uploading and how to upload those now?

2. what do you think importing from SIM means.

surely those will be easy for you, I got full confidence.

Ha! Well, I have loaded those "new" contacts that didn't load before via the vcard route. Fortunately, they were few in number. And I have not idea yet about loading contacts from a sim card. I can only guess that those contacts comprise a separate group.
