is it possible to move playlists saved to an external hardrive to new computer?

I saved my entire itunes library including playlists to an external hard drive prior to my old laptop crashing. When I have tried to move my library from the external hard drive to the new computer in the past, I have not been able to retain the playlists I built, although I did save them. Is it possible to somehow re-intall the old playlists onto the new itunes when going from external hard drive to a new computer? Thanks!

Hey slgpgh,

Great question. This is possible, granted you still have access to the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. If you do still have these files, follow this article:

For further information on moving your iTunes library to a new computer, refer to this article:

Thanks,
