16gb Ipod nano will only hold 456 songs, what am I doing wrong

My new 16gb 7th Gen Ipod nano will only hold 456 songs but it should hold around 4000. Am I doing something wrong

That 4000 total is really an approximation based on typical 3 minute pop tracks at 128KB.


Your songs have been imported at a very high quality (Possibly AIFF) and therefore size reduces capacity.


AIFF really isn't necessary on the iPod - You won't benefit with the majority of mid priced headphones.


So attach your iPod to iTunes and click on devices.


In the summary window Options panel tick Convert higher bit rate songs and in the pull down set to one of the three available compression rates - they are 128kb , 192kb and 256kb.


Try each with a selection of your most listened to tracks and see which is personally acceptable.


All will increase capacity - the more compressed the more tacks you can upload.
