Is there a way to check for faulty RAM in a Mac Pro?

I have a Mac Pro, circa 2007 that came with 2GB of RAM.

Last August, I added 2GB of RAM and noticed a slight improverment in performance, however recently I have been experiencing system freezes and an inabilty to revive the system after it's gone to "sleep".

A technician at the local Mac Store said that it could be due to faulty RAM. Is there any sort of diagnostis software that wouuld someone to check if the RAM is faulty?

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

There is the Apple Hardware Test but my experience has been it is rather simple and misses a great deal of things that are not major and obvious.

Look at the apple menu (apple left side of the menu bar) About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Memory and see if all memory modules show up, do any appear to be incorrectly reported, not reporting at all. Gives you a gross evaluation.

Do this, excellent FBDIMMs $64 8GB kit - I have 16GB in mine now.

They are built above spec, run cooler (no need to boost the system fans now) and very affordable.

2x2GB FBDIMM DDR2 667MHz @ $32

Swapping parts like DIMMs is one good excellent way, just as swapping graphic cards.

But sometimes you also have to, if there were problems of any type, have a new clean system too.

Just like zeroing a drive does not insure there are no weak sectors, any test for RAM, for ECC esp, is more of a "at least it was not so bad that AHT or memtest threw up its hands".

If a DIMM reports half its normal capacity/size it is fried.

FBDIMMs stress age from hot-cold-hot changes and never lasted or never should be trusted after 3 yrs probably. The above - compared to what we paid back in even '07 was... criminal ($400 for 2x1GB)
