out of space on 4th generation 8gb ipod touch?

i am out of space on my ipod. i am already aware that the apps already downloaded by apple make the ipod hold less than 8gb, i still am confused as to why i am out of space. i only have 307 songs, 12 additional apps (half of them are big social networking apps such as facebook, twitter, instagram etc.), 108 photos, and 6 videos (each around 5 seconds). i do use imessage daily. what could be taking up so much space? my friend had over 700 songs on the same ipod and several gaming apps before she ran out of space on hers.

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 6.1.3

Go to Settings > General > Usage, this should give you a breakdown of what is using up the storage.

i did this, and it is still not making sense. i'm using 1.6 GB of music, around 675.2 MB for all my apps, and 158.7 MB for photos and videos. i also noticed i have 5 GB available for icloud...does that affect my ipod's space?

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.

Come back with the results.

If the "other" is larger than about 1 1/2 GB tha means that i includes corrupted files.

iCloud storage does not pertain to the storage on your iPod.

unfortunately restoring from backup has not worked. i still have 3.5 GB of other.

Oh, it's free. I tried it and it saved 198K - lol.

Still have 2.47 GB in that darned "Other." This just isn't right.

The "other" component is basically the preloaded software on to your iTouch. There is no way to remove this software.

Incorrect,"other" is not the operating system.

What the "other" consists of is described here which was previously cited in this discussion

I just look on on my iPhone 4 and the other is 596 but the OS takes up over 1 GB
