So I got an ipod touch 4gen on the 29th as a earily birthday product, I then find out 4 days later that apple discontinued the 4th gen, does that mean it wont be supported anymore?

This means that Apple isn't selling this device anymore, but it's still supported. You can get updates and you can receive support if you have any problem. Apart from that, you can buy AppleCare to extend its warranty

AFAIK, Apple is still selling the iPod Touch 4th Generation 16GB ($199 in the US)
