Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
I can't simply use the iMac disc utility that is already installed? I have a "superdrive" and have exported through Quicktime but when I go on disc utility, the option to burn that exported file is greyed out. Hmmmm.... I'm so confused.
Can anyone help without recommending loading additional software? I would think Disc Utility should be able to do this but I just can't figure out why I can't load my finished .mov file on to it. Appreciate your help!
That can't be done!
The purpose of iDVD is to compress the iMovie project to the standard DVD format of mpeg2, enabling you to view it on any DVD player or computer.
Simply copying the iMovie file to a DVD will only give you exactly that: a copy data file.
So I don't have iDVD and do not want to purchase additional software.
I just can't believe that within this almighty iMac system, I am unable to burn an iMovie project. Hmmmm...
That does not leave you with a lot of options....
I will try this "Burn" and see how that works out I suppose. Pretty silly though that iMovie doesn't have something already built in to simply burn a project that is created on that program. A bit ridiculous actually.
I completely agree, but as I pointed out in my link, Apple do not want you to make DVDs at all!

Yes, this is a bizarre situation. However, iDVD is the best way to go by far.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD. I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others. None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40. (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)
