can I cancel migration once it starts?

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

You can cancel migration restarting both Macs. In this case, the migration won't be completed and your data won't show up, so you will have to run Migration Assistant again if you want to restore data
