I don't agree with this

I don't agree with this. Any Vid's that ran on my PPC PB now won't run on this Intel iMac. That's a problem.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Yes, Problem. It works great on my PPC PB but up on my new Intel iMac, uick Time refuses to run files. And no third party software was nor is needed to fix this. uick Time has an Intel problem. Do I need to ask Mr. Gates?

Download VLC Player (free) as suggested.

There are a few files Quicktime cannot open. I doubt Mr. Gates would have any answers for you. But you are welcome to try.

Did you miss the part where I said it works great on my PPC PB but not on my new Intel iMac? I'm not impressed with the performance of third party SW the crashes often.

I read that bit. Strangely, I have five Intel Macs running Mountain Lion and have absolutely no problem playing any Video format at all (except the aincent Real Player). But if your wish is simply to complain about Quicktime, then please use the correct forums.

What's wrong with that new Quicktime that it won't work?

Apple either dropped support for your older media formats in Quicktime or your PPC machine has codecs installed or a automatic installer (like Perian) that made it appear Quicktime can play just about anything.

Also a PPC machine only has 10.5, the newer Quicktime on'y supports Intel Mac's with 10.6 or later.

So it's possible that something changed in Quicktime and the codecs it's natively supports.

Perian is no longer being attended too, Quicktime might not be supporting older codecs, your only solution is to install VLC Player for the Mac, hope it works and live with it as there is nothing else anymore.

Yup! That's pretty well what I've deduced from what I've seen, found and heard. Not being a Guru but just a user of tools, it seems QT 10 is missing codecs that the PPC flavour has. Likely due to licensing issues, patent lawsuits, residuals, etc. You name it, it'll likely fit. Somebody got into a snit, somehow.

Bottom line: QT 10 isn't what it was . Too bad, so sad.....

So, I am trying to work out if you wish to attend to your problem, or just moan about your inability to use Quicktime as millions of others do, or use VLC as millions do. You can install Perian and Flip4Mac and hope they improve your viewing experience. Or you can buy a licence for Qiccktime Pro 7 and use it, or continue to praise the aincent PPC concept and not be able to play your video media. The suggestions made here are solid and well documented. Take it or leave it.

I guess you didn't get the underlying message. No, I don't 'moan'. I'm expressing my sadness that products such as Apple's QT are degraded, as more than a few others have been, so as to not live up to their predecessors.

I don't enjoy having to need the use of third party apps to fulfil the performance of original Apple apps I grew to like and enjoy.

I was attemting to highlight the degraded performance of an Apple app such that its missing features might possibly be restored, as unlikely as that may be.

If you feel I'm moaning, I feel for you. Tough. Needing these third party apps to fix original app deficiencies reminds me too much of the daily PC patches I keep needing with that crappy PC I'm stuck with at work.

Ahh, now I see. So you wish to inform Apple of your personal dissatisfaction with changes in the three to four years that PPC programs have no longer been made. Then you will need to let Apple know, and hope they may make changes to future releases to suit your personal needs. We are all just users here as well so let your feelings be known to Apple here

Good Luck with that 😉
