Since updating to 10.8.3 it seems my keyboard light has entirely gone out. I have reset the SMC and the PRAM. I do not have File Vault installed. I've tried Pin Tick app and also obviously played around with everything possible in preferences to make it light up...nothing. Any other suggestions? Mid 2010 Macbook Pro.

Try this:
Go to Library / Preferences and trash this file: com.apple.iokit.AmbientLightSensor.plist.
Restart.
No, still no change..
One more thing to try:
System Preferences > Keyboard > uncheck Adjust keyboard brightness in low light
Tried that again, still no light - do the keyboard lights just die sometimes? Seems too coincidental as I'm sure it happened after I installed ML...
Create a new user - Guest, for example. Does the keyboard lighting work when you log in as Guest?
Press F6. You might have unintentionally set the light to 0 = off via F5. Afaik there is no Settings setting for the light in ML.

My Keyboard light is also not working. I noticed when pressing f5 or f6 that its off. But when pressing F6 it doesnt brighten up at all? ( Seems key is locked) Weird. Any tips please? Many thanks
My keyboard backlight is not working either - after installing Mountain Lion (10.8.4).
What is interesting is that it the backlight works on the windows bootcamp partition.
So it works in windows but it does not in Mac Os. Any help?
It was a simple fix in the end ...F6 worked for me ...after spending too much time wandering around the internet 😝
Nope. F6 does not work for me (nor Fn+F6 does) . The backlight is not functional. It is interesting it works on my windows bootcamp partition but after Mountain Lion, in Mac OS, my backlight just does not work. Any help?

So I guess its set to turn the keyboard light off if I'm in a lit room. Is there a way to disable this setting and make the keyboard light manual?
Nevermind... I figured it out! Go to System Preferences > Keyboard> Go to the Keyboard Tab at the top of this window and uncheck "adjust keyboard brightness in low light"
If you scroll up this page, you will see that step was suggested on June 2. That post even included a screen shot!
