Machine will no longer recognise by profile ID???

I have been using a new iMAC for a few days but today it will no longer recognise my password in the log in screen - can anyone help?

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.


If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS, or...


Reset Password 10.7, 10.8...
