Q: Transfer photos from Galaxy s4 to iPhoto

The only possible way to do that I can think of is to connect the Galaxy to your Mac with a USB cable, open iPhoto and see if it recognizes it as a camera.  If it doesn't try using Image Capture. 

If all else fails contact Galaxy support.

Install Kies on your MacBook.  This will allow you to access all the files on your Samsung Android phone.

I have found Kies to be simple, intuitive and useful.

I found Kies to be very poor on on performance and didn't do what I wanted.

Ideally I photo needs to see the S4 as a camera/external drive and import the way it does for other media natively.

For that to happen the OS on the phone will need to use standard formats and layouts.

I have an old HTC Thunderbolt. To transfer photos I take the chip out, put it in a card reader and then transfer it to the computer. It's clunky, but it works. Verizon has an adapter so the chip can be used with a standard SD reader. I need a new phone and was hoping the S4 was more sophisticated now. Oh, well, at least you can still remove the chip in the S4...most phones no longert allow you to do that.

A Silverstone, I have my photos set up to load into finder and then I transfer them to iPhoto, as it's a closer match to what I was used to with windows.  I find iPhoto fun, but a little daunting and more difficult to find stuff. I'm pretty sure there is a setting to transfer photos directly from my camera chip to iPhoto, so I don't know why it would be different with the phone chip. But I can't answer your question for sure. Anyone else?

This is how I transfer files from my galaxy S4 to my iMac.

Connect the USB cable to the iMac. On the Galaxy screen, pull down to reach the black screen that tells you what is running, etc. You should see connected as a USB device. Tap that for options. You can selece USB PC Connection (MTP) or CAMERA (PTP).  The USB PC Connection suggests you use www.android.com/filetransfer. Once that has been downloaded, its super easy.

Not that I'm aware of. After taking a look at Kies, I'm not sure which method I prefer. You can not actually see photos, only file names with AFT, but everything is in neat little files. I may stick with Kies, it seems to be a little more user friendly actually being able to see the photos I'm transferring.  I wonder if putting one application on an external drive would be a work around uninstalling Kies.
