Can a virus be transferred through portable mouse hardware?

I am using a USB logitech mouse on my old PC that has a virus. I have a new Mac Pro. Can a virus be transferred in the mouse hardware if I use it on my new Mac? Is it safe to use the mouse on the new computer if I do not know the location of the virus?

Thank you

The mouse itself has no storage in which to hide a Virus. Use it on your new Mac and do not worry about it for a moment.

That is false information.

There are many mice on the market that have internal memory for storing button settings and other preferences that can be accessed by the OS. That memory can be used to contain a virus if its specifically written to infect them, but none have been written to affect a Mac.
