I cant use my my ipad as the iCloud backup meesgae comes up and wont close down, it wont let me do anything else or close down

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your iPad restarts, so you will be able to use the device again
I have tried that, holding the sleep button down for much longer than 10 seconds but it will not close down
You have to hold both Sleep and Home buttons
