Q: internet sharing

I have a 2007 24 inch iMac, a late 2009 27 inch iMac, and an iPad, all with current OS.

The 27 iMac is connected to the interent with Ethernet, and it shares to the 24 and iPad with Wi-Fi.

Every time I restart the 27 computer, it gets amnesia and the 24 and iPad no longer have internet access.

I must redo the Internet Sharing settings every time I restart the 27 iMac.

Help.

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    Hello,

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

    Setup Internet Sharing again.

If your one mac connects to the internet with a ethernet cable then why not install a wifi router or a wireless access point to broadcast a wifi signal to your other devices and forget the internet sharing. This is the best option.

    Thanks.

Getting a wirelss access point is what an Apple tech suggested to me over a year ago.

    But,

    A) the Mac is supposed to work as advertised, and

    B) the wifi router (AirPort Express Base Station, I presume) costs about $130 here in Korea.

And, if the Mac doesn't work as is, I am skitting about buying new equipment that it may not work with.

I am not cheap, but I would hate to fork out $130 and still have a problem.

BDAqua's kind suggestion may challenge my tech abilities.

You do not need a router or access point made by apple. Any brand, make and model will work. Some as cheap as $30.

Not sure why some mac people think everything they buy has to have the apple name on it for it to work with mac computers or any apple device.

I personally use a netgear model right now and have used linksys and zyxel brand routers with and without a wifi access point built into them. They all work with any device I have ever had, including all the mac computers I have ever owned.

And where do you get the Mac are supposed to work as advertised? If they did there wouldn't be a need for these forums.
