Unlock t-mobile iPhone-5

Hi,

I purchased my iPhone 5 from t-mobile and requested unlocked code. They sent me these intructions:

72 hours after receiving this email please follow the below instructions for unlocking your T-Mobile iPhone device.

1. Perform a backup (we suggest backing up through iCloud backup, however iTunes backup will work if you haven't setup iCloud)

2. Connect your iPhone to iTunes

o Important: This step must be performed using the USB cable connected to your PC or Mac in order to trigger the process.

3. Within a few minutes, a screen will appear, "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked".

4. The device is now unlocked. You may now insert any non T-Mobile SIM card into the iPhone.

If the above steps do not work, then the 'restore device' process must be completed and an iTunes activation completed. In the re-activation of the device, the device unlock will be pulled down once activation is complete.

I follow all instructions but didnt get the ā€œCongratulation, your iphone has been unlockedā€ message. I called apple support and they said phone status is unlocked. I am going to go to overseas in week. is my phone going to work or do i need to try until I get that message?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Those instructions are lacking important information. When your device is connected to iTunes, you need to click Restore. Follow the on screen instructions, and when it is done, load your data back using the backup you made in Step 1.

One step that is often omitted from the instructions is that the iPhone needs a Device Firmware Update, otherwise known as DFU.

Read each of the steps before initiating the DFU.

!. Connect the iPhone to any computer running a fully updated version of iTunes.

2. Press and hold both "home" and "sleep/wake" buttons

3. After eight seconds let go of only the sleep/wake button.

4. Keep holding the home button until you see a popup mesage in iTunes.

5. Read all all the popups, then use iTunes to update the iPhone's software.

If the popup fails to show, repeat steps 2 through 4

Okay i was going through this and i finally found an answer šŸ˜€

I found myself backing up, restoring and then restoring from backups so many times back to back

for like 3 days trying to get that "Your device has been unlocked" message! Lol, sounds funny but

i know the fustration here.

The thing is that i was doing the whole process with the sim card that the phone was originally

locked to inside the phone! So what i did was, i took another nano-cut sim-card (from another company , of course!) i had laying around the house and popped it in while the phone was restoring. As soon as the iphone was finished and detected the sim card it automatically said "Your device has been unlocked" šŸ˜® šŸ˜€

But i was thinking..... maybe you dont even have to go through all that, Maybe you could just try by turning off your phone, pop out your original sim-card, put a random nano sim-card in there (I REPEAT, IT HAS RO BE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY OTHER THAN THE PHONE WAS LOCKED TO), then try and turn on your iPhone.

If that doesnt work, then you will have to do the restore process....

Dont take out the second sim card you put in there if you tried the last step, just proceed to restore.

I hope this helps anyone ! Cheers !šŸ˜Ž
