Q: iTunes freezes when iPod is connected...

Hi, in dire need of some help here!

Just this morning my iPod and iTunes were working fine. A few hours ago I connected my iPod back into my Macbook Pro to sync some more music onto it and put a new movie on there. Everything was fine and I did the standard procedure of ejecting, then disconnecting, my iPod from the Mac.

I went to listen to the new tunes, and next thing I know all my files have apparently been erased. I say apparently, because when I check the settings on my iPod it says there's 0 music files etc, but 60+ gb of "other" files. I read up on this website to get some advice, and it said connect to iTunes to restore the iPod's settings as this is a common fault. So I tried to do that...

Initially, iTunes opened up fine. Since before I can remember I've been getting this message saying "iTunes cannot verify the identity of the server..." but when I press continue, everything works as normal. Then I plugged in my iPod and it took a while to read it, then it just stopped responding. I thought it was just a one off, so did a Force Quit and tried again. Exactly the same thing happened. I've tried resetting the Mac, resetting the iPod, using the iPod as a disk manager (or whatever it's called), updating iTunes (but then found out I need a newer piece of software for the Mac to install it). So I tried installing the software to find out I need more GB space on my hard-drive (only got 8gb left)... But I don't see how that would be an issue when it's all been working fine - even earlier today it was fine. I've even tried plugging in the iPod and quickly unplugging it, and plugging it back in again as other people have had success this way. This doesn't help either... iTunes begins to work again, but it doesn't know the iPod is there anymore. I know the Mac is registering my iPod because I can get to it through the finder and when I disconnect it without ejecting, I still get that warning message..

Any ideas??

Any help is greatly appreciated..!

(Ps, sorry for my ramblings. First time poster - and I can't find any other similar posts so trying to squeeze in as much info as possible)
