Can't find rented movie

Earlier today I rented a movie...paid $3.99 for it, and I supposedly had 24 hours in which to watch it. I went to my Apple TV and can't find it anywhere so I can play it...so I tried finding it on my iMac in iTunes...not there either. The intent was to watch the movie on my Apple TV. Do I have to purchase it again from the Apple TV? If so, have I just lost the first $3.99 I paid in the iTunes store earlier? Thanks for any help.
