iPhone to Android iMessage bug fix

Well I've tried all the listed 'fixes', and calling to no avail. Still have intermittent problems with numerous contacts.

When someone tells me they tried to text me and I didn't receive it, I just tell them it's an issue Apple doesn't possess the ability or intelligence to fix. think the FCC should shut down Imessaging all together.

I did too, and it didn't work for me either. I ended up switching back to am iPhone (since they held my number hostage). Well, guess what? Now, I'm having trouble with iMessage on my ****** iPhone!!!!!!

I cannot believe how badly Apple screwed this up. I am beyond angry and won't stop telling everyone I know about this experience.

There is a simple iMessage fix: Disable iMessage in Settings -> Messages, reset the iPhone’s Network Settings under Settings -> General -> Reset, then re-enable iMessage.

This works, but ***** because you have to do this for every iPhone you want to receive sms from.

I gotta say I was die hard Apple since the day the first iphone came out - getting a new one on the day THEY came out - but after attempting to switch and running into this massive headache of missed texts and several annoyed friends.....I will NOT be buying any more iphones!!!!!

I will say I finally figured out a fix for the most part but it isnt perfect - and most importantly it doesnt handle the issue of those people that are now texting from their laptops or ipads on wifi 😟 I'm hoping the guy that made the android imessage app somehow brings it back (it was deleted from the store and is now not supported any more (apple lawsuit pressure??)

anyway: things I did that all helped a little:

turn off imesssage AND facetime in the old iphone before switching. if you already gave that phone away, then you have to log in to your account or call apple and make sure these are both fully deactivated - incl the phone # associated with it. deactivating facetime helped complete that process.

the biggest pain is asking ALL your friends and family on iphones to go into their phone settings, under Messages and select "send as sms" when imessage not available. they hsould probably have that turned on anyway.. but still annoying!!! why even have that option. just send it as sms if imessage not avail!!!

But you have to admit it is a royal pain in the ***. I didnt even KNOW I wasnt getting many texts the first few days. it honestly shouldnt be so hard. and the truth is after annoying a group of friends on a group text who finally asked me to fix it & let them know when iits done... I finally got it sorted out for MOST of my friends/fam but not all. and the biggest thing is there is no way to text or email every single person that might text you and have them go thru all those steps. its very annoying. plus I know I will miss people & then they wont be able to text me until they finaly realzie I'm not just being rude & maybe missing their texts and they call me to say "why arent you replying?"

its a major issue apple needs to address and make MUCH easier to switch

but we are still left with not getting messsages from people who use their ipad or laptop to send via wifi (many people do now...) bummer

Just an update to my earlier post. After 24 hours it seems to be working again. Maybe the reason why the Apple support employee couldn't find my number in the database was because i somehow managed to remove it myself. I guess there is some kind of caching going on so it may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

YES! i have mentioned it several times now. it can take up to 24 hours for any imessage changes to take affect.

just call Apple Care and they will revoke the certificate/phone number from the imessage system. worked for me.

Just a heads up but even if your "number" is removed from the imessage system it may not fix this problem. My number is removed from the imessage system yet some people can still successfully send me iMessages. My guess is that the phone is sending an iMessage by way of an email address and not the phone.

What would solve this whole problem is if Apple just allowed you to disassociate an apple ID with iMessage rather than just a phone number because that clearly isn't sufficient.

Apple should be ashamed of themselves for this - very consumer unfriendly. Half the people I talk to don't even know what iMessage is or the difference between a blue and green bubble yet Apple forced this on them and defaulted them out of SMS.

I'm glad it worked for you. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me.
