Apr 22, 2014 6:20 PM in response to quitob1by larryhutch,I see no way that wiping your Android phone will in any way change your circumstances. The problem does not lie in the Android phone, it lies in the delivery system. Wiping your phone will not change that, imo.
Again, for clarity, I stand by my statement that there is no current patch available that will fix the problem for everyone, nor will having your contacts turn "send as SMS" on fix the problem for everyone. Some have said it fixed it for them; for me, it did not fix it.
If you have done everything that has been suggested in this thread and you are still having problems, then I believe you will continue to have problems until Apple changes something on their end.
I also agree with you that contacting all of your contacts and telling them to turn on "send as SMS" is not reasonable, and in my case, having them do that did not fix the problem.
As I said, I no longer use my iphone as a phone and no longer have the same number. As a result, I no longer have the texting problem and can receive all texts from my family once again. Since I can do no more testing of this issue, I shall withdraw from the thread unless I receive further replies. Good luck to all with this problem.

Apr 24, 2014 3:46 PM in response to _RT_by akingpa,I apologize about the odd style but I'm using voice rec software. I just got the Galaxy S five and I have this problem too after weeks of searching online I finally figured out the problem it is with iMessage even if you have your old phones imessage switched off. you have to get your friends to text you normally and send. If the text bubble shows up blue, press and hold choose option send as SMS or text and the bubble will change to green green means SMS blue is the iMessage so its up to the iPhone user to take literally a half of an extra step to send a text to you and if they don't do that then they're just jerks

Apr 24, 2014 4:51 PM in response to zelousby quitob1,Hi All,
Yesterday there's a new Google Hangout's update 4.1. that I installed and some of my iPhone users can now send me group MMS! Fingers crossed that it's working for ALL my future iPhone group MMS.
Give it a try and let us know it works for you. What's weird is that if it DOES actually fix the issue, does that then mean it was Google's problem the entire time, or did Google find some workaround for those iPhones who are caching my number tied to iMessages?

Apologies - I meant the Hangout update is not 4.1, but actually v2.1.076.

Apr 28, 2014 7:00 AM in response to Pat518by scottkidder,I'm 20 days into my switch from iphone to Android and I've spent an inordinate amount of time working to try to resolve this issue to no avail.
I've always loved Apple and had planned to go back when the iphone 6 came out but this issue has pushed me over the edge and I'm not sure I'll go back after the way they have refused to help me get this resolved.
I've been able to get direct one-on-one messages from some friends by using steps listed above but the bigger problem seems to be with Group texts for me. I get group messages from some iphones but not from most. Even iphones who can send me a one-on-one message successfully are not able to send group messages.
But the biggest problem is that the user on the other end doesn't get an error so they think the message went through. Providing an error message to the sender would be an extremely easy step for Apple and their refusal to do it is simply negligent.
At this point the only answer Apple has given me is to wait an additional 25 days (45 total) and by then the issue will magically resolve itself through certificate renewal on every one of my friend's phone. I would like to believe this but at this point I'm pretty skeptical that this will ever be resolved.

Apr 28, 2014 7:27 AM in response to scottkidderby scottkidder,As a quick update, I called AT&T and asked for a refund on my monthly bill since I was paying for unlimited messaging but some of my messages were not coming through and they knocked roughly $100 off my bill (I have 2 smartphones on the account).
I explained that while I understand this is not an AT&T problem, it is up to AT&T to guarentee my service and therefore its up to them to work with (or force) apple to get this fixed.
I would encourage all of you to do the same and perhaps if AT&T has to give enough refunds they will be encouraged to step up the pressure on Apple to get this resolved.

Apr 28, 2014 4:45 PM in response to Pat518by artotoros,This thread started at the beginning of January... in the Apple discussions section. Now, I didn't read all 26 pages, but you'd think an Administrator would come in and say something like "Hey Guys! Sorry we've ruined your mobile experience, but we are working on this problem."
Fast Forward to April 28... not a peep or even a an inkling that some type of solution is on the way. I've tried everything and pretty much have given up and am going to go make new friends that use droids on craigslist.. I can't believe this hasn't been acknowledged by apple as a super serious problem..

May 3, 2014 9:18 AM in response to Pat518by goukison,Hey guys,
i am just writing to let you all know that i just fell in this Imessage trap,
i tried calling apple. they told me that i need to tell ALL my friends that whenever they text me they need to go to setting and switch to regular text instead of Imessage.
i have lots of freinds globaly , and i surely don't keep up with who has an Iphone or not.
if at least the phone would warn them that i didn't receive their message because my Imessage is not available it will help!
my boss who is a nearly 70 years hold woman, who doen't have the pacience or knowldge to go through all that setting garbage when she needs to message me.
i can't believe apple representative have not at least posted their awareness of this issue
there has to be a way for us to expose this issue in the mass media and get response from apple!

May 3, 2014 9:31 AM in response to goukisonby lundejd,The fix has been posted all over the Internet. Is it Android users that can't Google or something?
Simply call 1-800-MY-APPLE in order to have Apple manually de-register your phone number from the Apple servers. In order to do this, make sure you have yourApple ID on hand as well as the phone number in question.
To expedite the process of your call, be sure to ask for technical support when calling in. Then just tell them you're switching to a smartphone that isn't an iPhone and you can't receive messages so you need them to manually unregister you from the iMessage servers.
Not that tough. Stop whining or blaming Apple and simply call the number. A small amount of time to free yourself to be on your fragmented OS where I'm sure things are simply perfect.

May 3, 2014 9:47 AM in response to lundejdby martofsky,Lundejd doesn't know what he's talking about and obviously doesn't understand what the issue is. For any visitors to this page, you can safely disregard his misinformed post. This has been a public service announcement.
-
May 3, 2014 10:10 AM in response to Pat518by jmatteis,Yes, perhaps Lundejd should try google, and see that as it has been discussed many times, and HIS "Solution" has been suggested many times, there are many other posts from people stating that this FIX does not always work. Instead of just reading a few posts, or the title of the thread, read all of the posts, many people have talked to Apple, and have tried that suggestion, as well as others and half the time APPLE doesn't even know how to fix it when we have called.
And as others have stated, Apple has been absent in this and several other threads with concerns. No moderation or administration.

May 3, 2014 12:58 PM in response to lundejdby goukison,1st) To everyone: i'd like to thank you all for your attempt to help ,
yes even you Lundejd, eventhough you were a little out of line. you took time to point out a solution that you thought would solve the problem.
2nd) To Lundejd only: next time you wanna help people, make sure you really understand what their problems are before you call them whinners. you clearly missed the part where everyone is saying that they been doing everyting you proposed in your agressive message!
3rd) To apple: it's your job to help us here in this forum, not people like Lundejd!
Good luck to all
btw: the only solution that's a 100% sure at this point, is to tell all your iphone friends to reset your contact info on their iphone ( ridiculous!)

this is a user to user forum. what that means is it is a forum for apple customers to talk to eachother and help eachother out with issues. if you want help from apple you should call them.
