Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Jun 4, 2013 12:34 AM in response to sashinkaby Helpstonharv,I had this problem for months on my new IMac and tried all the possible solutions that had been posted. My problem has now been resolved by changing the channel on my router. If you go into your router setup they should be an option to change from auto to manual channel settings, I just change mine to manual and selected channel 9 and for the past 2 months have not had any problems. Please try this first as it is simple and it what the only thing that sorted my problem.
