Why two Send boxes in Mail App ?
I sometimes get confused: where is my sent mail ? there are two Sent boxes.
One under Mailboxes and one under Gmail
I never know when the sent mail appears on one or the other.

Pick which one you want to use, select it and go to the Mailbox menu, choose 'Use This Mailbox For Sent'
Supress the display of the other one (at the Google site, in settings)
The options for the Mailboxes - Sent box (Gmail) are greyed out, i e you cannot choos "Use This Mailbox For Sent"
There are no such option for the Sent box in Yahoo.
Thus the problem persists
You may choose the option of you go to the Gmail section Sent Mail. but I want to use the Sent box under the Mailboxes.

That is what Csound1 is trying to give you. You need to let Mail know that the particular mailbox in Gmail is the one that sent mail goes to for Gmail. It will "unify" the sent folders under mailboxes. When it was set up, it didn't make the association, so it is orphaned down in the Gmail folders.
How do you "surpress the display of the other one" (at Google, settings)?
Csound1 will have to be more explicit if he is wlling to give some support.

OK Csound1, I have surpressed the mailbox Sent Mail, so it is hidden in Gmail
But in the Mail App is still there and works as usual. You cannot choose "use this mailbox as send"
It is greyed out as usual.
I don't like that mailbox (Sent Mail) because it is showing the sender in bold rather than showing the recipient. And I do not need two send boxes.
What should be done ?
You should not use Gmail, find a simpler system, that is my opinion, and it is my final opinion on the subject.
I'd rather not use Mail App.
Gmail is my standard mail program
I am sorry if I have hurt your vanity.
You must tell Mail that the Sent Mail folder in Gmail is the Sent folder to use for Gmail.
You don't seem to be following this at all. Mail doesn't know that the Sent Mail folder under Gmail is supposed to be used for Sent Mail with respect to Gmail. If you do as CSound suggested earlier, and I tried to clarify, it will move the "Sent Mail" folder out of Gmail and put it in the Sent category under Mailboxes.
Gmail is not a standard IMAP service, so setting it up to use in Mail is quite painful and very difficult to keep straight.
These articles discuss many of the problems experienced and the first Macworld one discusses setting up the Gmail mailboxes to be "unified" under MAILBOXES.

I made some progress after having read those articles
I was right in my observations in the problems
But what about Yahoo mail to Mail App ? same problems as with Gmail ?

Yahoo mail also has problems based on the discussions I've read.
I don't know anything about Yahoo mail except that you have to pay for IMAP access, but that may have changed. And, as Eric pointed out, it has its own set of issues.
Both were designed as Web-based email services. They modified the services to behave like standard email servers, but really are not.
So the blame is on Gmail and Yahoo.mail and not on Mail App ?
.
The sent mail areas are neither the fault of Mail or the email provider. Mail gives you buttons to see your inbox, your drafts, ad your sent mail (and maybe something else, I'm not sure right now). Then it gives you an area to see all your folders created by the email service. Therefore, you cannot see "trash" with Mail, but you can see it because Gmail and Yahoo have trash folders. You can also see "labels" in Gmail and "folders" in Yahoo. Mail shows certain folders that are important to see. Then it shows all the folders provided by Google and Yahoo that aren't so important (e.g. Spam, trash, important, not important, etc.). Hope this helps.
