HI,

Your title links to a Time Machine Article.

Your question lists every category about every aspect of the Apple Apps and functions of Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x)

Categories: Account & Login, Finder & Dock, Getting Online & Networking, Messages, Notes & Reminders, Installation & Setup, Mail & Contacts, Printing, faxing, and scanning, Time Machine, Universal Access, Using OS X Mountain Lion

Your Computer Specs list what iOS you are running but not the OS X version your Mac is running.

MacBook, iOS 6.1.4

To be clear:-

Messages, Mail, Notes and Reminders plus Contacts, Time Machine are all Apple Apps.

Everything else in the Categories list are function of the OS X.

The MacBook will not be running iOS 6.1.4

After that we are all guessing what you are talking about.

HI,

On the Mac there are two possibles we can start with.

In System Preferences > Sound > Output tab there is a check box that makes the Speaker icon appear in the Menu Bar (towards the right and the Time if you also display that.)

In the pic I used that drop down to show it has a slider.

The System Preferences > Sound > Output also has a Slider that can control the Master volume.

Using the keyboard keys to alter the volume will make this icon panel appear temporarily

Applications can also have a slider such as this one in iTunes
