Try some of the following:

After ensuring that the device is NOT set on mute and the volume is turned on.

1. Play some music sounds in different Apps (Music, Calling in handoff-mode, Skyping etc)

If no sound played

2. Insert headphones and try if sounds are played in headphones.

if no sounds played

3. Check the headphone plug for the liquid sensor.

If all that does not fix the issue just restore device to factory settings.
