Horrible battery life after 10.8.4 update?

Computer: 2010 MacBook Pro 15"

OSx version: 10.8.4

I updated my computer yesterday to OSx 10.8.4.

While I was on 10.8.3 after a startup with nothing running my mac showed 5-7 hours or so of battery life.

With 10.8.4 it now shows 2-3 hours if im lucky after a startup with nothing running.

As I post this I started at 100%, I have been using my computer for not even 20 min now and its down to 80%

The computer shows the battery condition is normal, and my energy saver settings are optimized with graphic swithcing, hard disk sleep, etc..

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Give this a try:

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion

Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

In that case I suggest reinstalling OS X:

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.

If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

This will install 10.8.4 (or should.) If this does not help, either, then take the computer in for service.

Having same issue after upgrade to 10.8.4. After upgrading two days ago, I had full charge, used MacBook Air about 30 minutes, then closed lid and left unplugged in sleep mode. Opened Mac about 5pm the next day and no charge left. Charged to 100%, used about 45 minutes last night, closed lid to sleep mode and again, no charge left after opening today at 5pm. I checked Smart status Ok and ran disk repair, No problems found. I am currently reinstalling Mountain Lion from Recovery mode. Will see what happens tonight and tomorrow.

I never had battery issues until the update.

Upgraded today from 10.8.3 > 10.8.4.

After upgrade I reset PRAM.

I started using computer with battery life ~7hrs (97%).

Been using it for ~3hrs, battery indicator shows 4:47hrs (58%) left.

I'm seeing much better life than 10.8.3.

Try resetting your PRAM:

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

3. Turn on the computer.

4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

5. Release the keys.

Good luck!

Check in Activity Monitor what processes are running and the CPU load. After an update the Spotlight index may be refreshing (mdworker and mds processes). Click on the Spotlight icon which looks like a little magnifying glass to see if it is underway. The process can take hours and slows the computer, but should be left to finish.

Mini Battery Logger is a good app for seeing battery use against the apps you are running:

Hey Guys, I got a Mac Air 2011 version, got the same problem, i used to get 4-5 hours of battery, but after updating last night I noticed the battery drain today, used it for like 20 minutes and 20% of battery GONE already, 1 and half later its dead!

Also to note , my SMC firmware update 1.8 and Thunderbolt Firmware update 1.2 keeps showing up even though I updated them, did it not update?

And no, i have not charged my battery cycle more than 1000 times yet, probably only 100+- at most.

Please help!! Need to sort this urgent or i cant take this on the road with me.
