My iMac Keeps Ejecting a DVD

I picked up a Redbox DVD and tried playing it on my iMac but my iMac keeps ejecting the disc moments after I put it into the slot. The DVD icon doesn't load on the screen, no applications open, and as far as I can tell my DVD drive doesn't even attempt to load the disc.

I tried another DVD and a CD just to see if there was something mechanical going on but both the DVD and CD loaded and played just fine.

I took the Redbox DVD and put it into my friend's Macbook and it loaded up fine.

Not sure if there was some sort of update that could be causing some problems? Maybe Apple has some added piracy protection and since this is a new movie, I don't know, I'm just guessing here. My friend doesn't update her computer and has an older OS. I have the latest updates and the latest OS and even the latest iTunes, so I don't know if there is some bug or feature that I'm unaware of.

In any case if anyone has experienced this problem or knows of a fix please let me know. I guess I'll eat the cost of the Redbox this time, but I won't be picking up any more till I know this problem can be resolved.

Thanks in advance.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).

Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd

Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.

You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.

At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.

This will bring up the Help Menu.

Make sure the DVD is not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.

How to Handle and Clean CD and DVD Discs

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

My Imac does the same thing with redbox movies. I have complained to redbox but they don't seem to care. They just jive me my money back and say sorry. I am not so sure it is just the IMAC though. I have an External DVD drive I hooked up and it still wont read them. It will spin them up a little then shut them down. My Blue Ray DVD player on my big home theatre system has problems reading them also sometimes. I think redbox has put some sort of software on their discs that has almost rendered them useless. I don't have the problem with any other kind of disc from anywhere else.
