Apple wont repair your phone, they will replace it for a fee. This means a much faster turn around time, and that all problems are solved. Contact Apple for pricing, as it varies between models 🙂
This policy is changing as we speak.
Some stores may now be prepared to replace the screen module for a much-reduced fee (maybe US$150 ??) as opposed to the about US$250 for a unit swap.
I didnt actually know this. I assume that would be an American thing, and probabaly wont help me out. I live in Australia :\ Even Still, this wont really help OldColdRanger as he needs the touch sensor replaced too

On the iPhone 5 the screen and 'touch sensor' are actually in the glass, this is one way they made the phone so slim. The whole screen would need replacing therefore Apple may be able to do this on the iPhone 5 but its more likely you will have to pay for a replacement handset. In the US it seems to be between $149 & $200 from what I have read if you still have warranty.
