Can't download Flash 10.1 on my iMac?

I recently bought an old iMac from a friend of mine just to have second computer around the house. I usually use a PC at home, but a Mac at work.

Unfortunately, Flash just... Isn't working on the internet browser (Chrome). I went in and disabled the second Flash file from my plugins, but it still wouldn't work with 10.3 instead of 11.7; I would get sound, but no video. I did a quick Google search and discovered that since I was running a PPC, only 10.1 Flash would work, so I downloaded the uninstaller and 10.1 from the Adobe flash archive. The uninstaller worked fine, but the installer only goes between 5-10% before it says the installation has failed. I have no idea what to do, or what I'm doing wrong.

Any help you could offer would be really appreciated. I would like to salvage this iMac, if possible.

You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 is for Snow Leopard onwards.

* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)

Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

can you download the version it offers?

I have an Intel Mac similar in architecture to yours running OS 10.6.8 and it has no problem getting the latest version of Flash for Intel Macs from that site.

I double-checked the system requirements for the link you sent me, and everything seemed fine. My processor is faster than the reccomended, and I have more than enough RAM and space on my disk.

I'm currently running Chrome, and went into Chrome://Plugins to make sure only the brower built-in version of Flash was active. Now, however, going anywhere that uses flash causes the webpage to stall, and any Flash content will cause my mouse cursor to blink rapidly if I hover over it. No graphic displays, but if the Flash element has sound, it will play.

I tried switching to Firefox, and though now my cursor doesn't blink like a strobelight, any sound related to a Flash element won't play, either.

Safari struggles, but will at least load the Youtube advertisements and video interface. No luck on sound or actual video. Cursor blinks rapidly here, too.

I'm so confused as to what is going on here. Any ideas?
