Problems creating a Multicam Clip

I use Multicam all the time, but this latest project is giving me MANY problems.

I have two angles, a tripod mounted wide-angle, and a hand-held close-up. Both clips are about 26 minutes long. I have edited the metadata to make sure that camera angle is properly identified.

When I try to create the multicam clip (first automatic, and then playing with a bunch of the settings), I get one of two results. Either it crashes (if I try to reset the starting timecode to 0:00:00:00 from 0:00:16:22; or it creates a 25-29 second multicam clip droppping everything else.

Two pertinant pieces of information: the timecode on the wide-angle was off so that the clip starts at about 57 minutes, while the close-up clip starts at 0, and the close-up camera has many instances of excessive shake.

I have a hard time thinking it could be the timecode, since I used audio-sync (and this hasn't been a problem in the past) - so all I can think is that it is the excessive shake causing the problem. My thoughts (which I haven't tried yet hoping to get some informed guidance here) is that I either need to:

1) go into the close-up clip and correct all the excessive shake problems

2) undo the analyze clip (which might involve re-importing that angle), which would remove all the excessive shake warnings - and I would then just visually cut to the wide-angle at those times.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I don't know why shaky footage would be a problem. With the guidance that you gave it by identifying angles, it should be looking at the waveforms to sync.

Try using custom sync. And from the Angle Sync drop down choose marker. Open one of the clips that will start your sequence and look for a distinctive waveform somewhere toward the beginning; place a marker at that point. Do the same for the corresponding clip in the other angle. Hopefully, that will kickstart the process.

BTW, it won't hurt to give unique IDs to both angle and camera.

So, I opened the clips to mark them as you suggested, Russ - and I suddenly noticed that both clips were marked already with some Ins and Outs - I don't know how or when those got there - maybe something in the analyze clip???

Well, I cleared those Ins and Outs, and "Lo! and Behold!" - I was able to make a multicam clip.

Thanks, I guess - your suggestion at least help me spot the problem... which I guess was me.
