Mac and camcorder compatibility

I had a sony mini dv camcorder which I was using for many years. It wasn't really mac compatible

but when I hoked it up to my ibook and started it playing the ibook would accept the transfer.

I just purchased a older model sony hd camcorder. I believe it is a Sony HDR-CX220

In the manual it says it's not mac compatible but I thought I could use it in the same way

I used the mini dv tape model. Unfortunately it is not playing well withmy mac but I'm a

big fan of sony products

I'm thinking of returning it and purchasing a camcorder that works and plays well with mac.

I was in an apple store a few minutes ago and they didn't have any suggestions but directed me to a third party website.

Any suggestions on what brands are mac/imovie friendly?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
