How do I record separate tracks through my Mixer in logic?

Hello All,

I am trying to record two seperate instruments at the same time into logic through my Xenyx Q502 USB Mixer so they are recorded on two sperate tracks (one track for microphone, the other for guitar) but am struggling as to how to do this. I have the Microhone in input one and the guitar in input two on my mixer. The problem that arrises is that both of these inputs record on the same track in logic and are not recorded as indivudal tracks. How do I make them record as indivudal tracks?

Thanks,

T.Hobbs.

P.s I am recording with mono selected etc on both and have slected input one and 2 (allthough thats the only inputs shown, the mixer can have 5).

First, in Logic's Preferences/Audio/Device make Universal Track Mode is enabled (checked) it should always be selected.

Now, can you try a test for us?

In your graphic above, record singing and playing guitar with only Input 2 (Audio track 2) record enabled, do not record using Input 1 (voice)

Is your guitar miked or direct, if both are miked there will be bleed on both tracks, if your guitar is direct you should not have vocal bleed.

If you are still getting both voice and guitar I suspect it has to do with either panning or routing on the Xenyx Q502 USB Mixer. Try this.. Pan mixer channel 1 (voice) to hard left, Pan mixer channel 2 (guitar) hard right.

Now try recording.

Once recorded you can pan them to your satisfaction in Logic.

I notice on Channel one you have a Pan control, but channel 2/3 has a balance control because it's a stereo input, same difference in this case.

You will be able to pan either recorded track the full width of the stereo field in Logic.

Also, fyi, the USB audio interface is stereo in these mixers so even though you have another set of inputs two track recording (as you're doing now) is the limit.
