Q: How can someone open a file created in Logic Pro 8 in Logic Express 7?

I recently sent some projects I've been working on in Logic Pro 8 to my friend/bandmate who is working with Logic Express 7. I do not want to have to bounce down all of the audio already arranged and have my friend waste the time rearranging it all on his end so he can work on it. I thought that Logic Pro and Logic Express could read each other's files. I used to work in Express and I know that once I upgraded to Pro 8 I could still work on projects originally created in Express. If Pro can read Express files, why isn't the reverse true? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi

The issue here is not one of "Pro vs Express", rather one of "Version 8 files cannot be opened in Version 7"

Software doesn't usually work like this, reverse compatibility is actually quite rare.  Where did you get the information that it was possible?  I would go back to that source.

It wasn't actual 'information'... it was more speculation and hope TClancey. Looks like I have a lot of work to do. I wish that Logic provided an option to save the main arrangement in an older version, like having the ability to save a .doc file in multiple different formats, but I guess that wouldn't be very capitalism friendly because Apple would think they would lose money by providing such an option... ;(

Welll... I need to completely wipe my hard drive anyways, so it looks like I'm going to have to install both Logic Pro and Logic Express on this system to make this work. Thanks for your help!
