error code -10813

I'm getting error code -10813 when I try to 'change all' of certain file types. Anyone know of a fix to this?

OSX 10.8.3

Trying to associate .jdf files with MeastreNova NMR software. I can change the file association to any other program (recommended or not) just not MN.

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.

Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.

When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.

If there's no change, the problem is in the application itself.
