i just purchased iCloud and notice that itms I had thought were deleted are stored there, how do i remove them? Once removed, are they removed from all connected devices?

If you delete data from icloud.com, it will also be removed from all connected devices that are syncing this data with your iCloud account.
Thank you for the info, but the bigger question is how do I delete non-purchased items. There are a couple of items I don't want on there.
If you're talking about your data, you can either delete it from any device signed into your account or from icloud.com from your computer. If you're talking about free apps, none of your "purchased" items can be deleted from your purchased list, including free apps. You can, however, hide them from view by following this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919. (Follow the instructions for doing this in iTunes as it can not be done from an iOS device running iOS 6.)
