Audio Works, Headphones Don't (No Red Light), Bootcamp 5.0.5033 with Windows 8 x64

Hi Apple Community!

I've been scouering the internet (and these forums) for a solution to my issue to no avail. Below I list my (1) probem, (2) computer specs and then the (3) *solutions* I've tried:

(1)- Problem:

When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on the side of my MBP sound does not come out of the headphones. My headphones are recognized when I plug them in, the audio defaults to the headphones, and green bars are shown indicated sound is flowing into the "headphones device" (see below), but I don't hear anything. Also, there is no "red light" being emmitted from my headphone jack, which some community members are reporting. However, my speakers work fine when my headphones aren't plugged in. Finally, my headphones work fine when I boot to the mac partition.

Furthermore, several applications return the following error related to my audio drivers/hardware: "no sound card has been detected." Here are my available sound devices from the Windows Device Manager (notice that no "Realtek" diver exists here, although "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" is installed as a program:

All devices are "working properly" and have the most updated drivers from Cirrus, Realtek and Bootcamp version 5.0.5033.

(2)- Specs:

  • 15" MBP with Retina Display (pruchased in Sept. 2012)
  • Windows 8 x64 bit (fully updated)
  • Bootcamp version 5.0.5033 (latest)

(3)- Attempted Solutions:

  • Reinstall bootcamp using "setup.exe" and individual drivers not using "setup.exe"
  • Maunaully install individual audio drivers including Realtek and Cirrus. I tried to install the IDT SigmaTel drivers manually and received the following error:

  • Unplugging and re-plugging headphones multiple times
  • Trying the "toothpick trick" where you gently massage the headphone jack with a toothpick
  • Multiple sets of headphones, including Apple hadphones
  • Reset both the SMC and PRAM
  • Have NOT tried to reinstall the OS...don't think this will solve the problem

Just last night, before I saw this, I did a little test. I plugged my headphone-jack speakers into the digital interface on my iMac, enabled it, but got no sound. Sorry I can't help much, I even went to microsoft forums last night looking for a solution. After looking at the tech specs for your MBP, it seems Apple has really handicapped laptop owners in reference to audio jacks, by only providing one option for plugs of that size. Hopefully, someone will eventually post on how to get this port to work in boot camp. I will keep scouring though to see if I can find something, any kind of answer

I have found a nice remedy to this problem after having bootcamp for so long.. ^_^

What you do is go to the playback devices panel, like you have in the image,

and just set the headphones to the default device. 😀

Now, what this does is enable the headphones to output sound from the machine,
but if you unplug it, it will simply go back to your speakers.

Lemme know if it works out for you!
