what is coreservicesd?

coreservicesd is using a great deal of my cpu, about 98%, i am curious if this is what has caused a very loud fan? and overheating. I am aware of streaming videos, and what that can do to the overall system, but this occurs roughly after a few minutes of powering up my system. Any information would be helpful.

Thank you

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 1.8 GHz i7

Probably it has. Core Services - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The process, coreservicesd, is a daemon. See:

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. Find the coreservicesd process, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. If it returns using too much CPU time, then possibly the issue is related to an application you are using that requires the coreservicesd daemon.

You can start by locating the com.apple.coreservices.uiagent folder in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder and putting it into the Trash. Then restart the computer.

Thank you for your help, I quit the process known as "coreservicesd", I immediately noticed by finder crashing as well as a few other programs. In addition, the icons for my applications disappeared and I had to restart. After restarting everything booted up just fine, and the loud fan noice and coreservicesd daemon was not running at 90%-99% CPU.

Its important to note though, that when i viewed my activity monitor my Wacom Driver shot up to 100% CPU usage, i ended that application as well. But no more loud fan noise and no overheating. Thank you for your response and quick help.

All the best have a great weekend.
