Is iTunes wi-fi sync the same as syncing an ipod?

Question

Is iTunes wi-fi sync the same as syncing an ipod?

I'm not sure I want to do iTunes Match because it costs $25 a year—and on top of every other bill in the house, this adds up, even if it's a seemingly paltry sum.

But we want the iPad to play music, so I see we can do wi-fi syncing. Is this the same as syncing an iPod in the sense that actual music files are copied over onto the iPad?

I ask because I am not able to try it myself at the moment (my iTunes, the only one in-house at the moment) is an older version. iPad belongs to someone else in the family.

Wifi syncing is syncing in the same sense as syncing via the cable. You can do almost everything you can with a traditional sync except updated iOS. However, you may updated iOS (5.0 and later) via the settings menu when connected to the internet.

Yes you can sync music to an ipad.

match is letting your ios device play music stored in the "cloud" so you need not sync the songs to the ios device

this is what you pay for

if you sync the music to the device and or access the shared lib of your computer when connected to your home wifi network is free no matter what
