How can I convert a dBase IV file to Excel on my MAC computer??
I downloaded the DoxBox program which enables me to use DOS programs such as dBase in my new MAC computer and it does work nicely!!

Sorry, I was not able to convert the dBase file using the tab text file.

.CSV is "Comma Separated Variables." I haven't used dBase in decades, but it used to have the ability to export a text-based file such as tab-delimited and .CSV.
I know what it is. The question was to US Tech, as to why he didn't try it in addition to a Tab-delimetd text file that you suggested.

Thinking further on this, I believe the original dBase file format was .dbf, something that Excel should be able to import directly.

Microsoft Excel program for Explorer etc... can convert .dbf to .xls however, the original question was how Mac Excel can open a .dbf??? Yopur suggestions above that Mac Excell can convert csv, filemaker, text file or html file does not include ,dbf file which is my need!!
Right. That is why you need to use dBase to convert the files you have by exporting them in one of the formats Excel can use. "Export the file to a tab-delimited text file or to a .CSV file. These can be imported by Excel." But, then you said you could not convert them. I took that to mean you could not convert them with dBase.
I do appreciate your experience but, I have tried to export a dBase file from both Mac (using DodBox) and XP machines, files were created as .txt and .csv. I was then hopeful but these files contained data that was not readable by Mac Excel program.
The real problem is how to convert dBase file to Mac Excell that I can work with.
I'm afraid I can't help you then. You might see if the database program contained in Libre Office will read the files. This assumes that the dBase files you have do not contain encrypted or corrupted data.
