Can you backup your notes via iTunes on Mac?

The front of my iPod popped off and now i can't use it anymore. I have really important notes on it and i can't get those notes onto iTunes. i checked a lot of web sites and they say the same thing: you have to go onto settings onto your iPod and turn on iCloud. it would be really helpful if someone could please tell me how to backup or get my notes onto my Mac.
