Q: Trouble maintaining connection to HP Mediasmart Server

I'm using an HP Mediasmart Server EX 495...I've had it for a few years.  Just recently it's been unable to maintain a connection to my iMac (late 2006 17-inch iMac...2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).

I'm getting healthy status lights for the drives and the network on the HP. I thought it might be the CMOS battery so I switched that out...same thing is still happening. If I restart the server I can connect, but it only maintains the connection for a minute or two and then I lose it. If I try to reconnect after that the connection fails.

Any ideas??? Is it worth bringing the server in for repair or am I better off upgrading...or is there a simple fix I'm overlooking???

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hi, is it the Mac, or the PC?

    On the Mac try this...

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

    If using Wifi/Airport...

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

Gave this a try...doesn't seem to have done the trick.  Same as before, I stayed connected for a few minutes and attemted to add some files to my iTunes library but then it lost the connection.

Lights stayed on for the drives and network on the HP...just lost the connection. I attempted to restart the server and my computer and now the server doesn't show up in the finder.

I'm guessing the files and the hard drives themselves are okay...I'm just experiencing a problems with the Mediamart.
