Procedure to automatically PREVENT MOUNTING all disks EXCEPT Booting Disk
How to Automatically PREVENT MOUNTING all disks (except the booting one, of course), whatever their names and number on Mac with OS X 10.8.4 (Mountain Lion)? I do not mean unmounting the already-mounted disks, as in:
Script to automatically UNMOUT all disks EXCEPT Booting Disk
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5090542?tstart=0
but a true prevention of mounting the disks in the first place, including the case in which the same external booting disk is used to boot two different Macs (at work and at home). In such case, the internal disks of any of the two Macs should not mount when booted from the external disk.
That is great to automatically prevent mounting ALL disks (except the booting one) after rebooting or booting, saving energy, heat, noise and speeding up the Mac performance (eg., when selecting save as, etc, since such unused disks do not show), extending the life of the unused disks.
Of course, it should be possible to mount any of such disks manually using the Disk Utility at any time, if required.
Likewise, it should be possbile to boot from such other disks (eg., the internal Mac disks in the example above) if required (for instance, pressing the Option key and selecting them while booting, or selecting them as boot disks in "Apple - System Preferences - System - Startup disk").
Finally, the procedure should not inferfere with:
- Apple Time Machine to backup the external booting disk and the other disks (after mounting them manually).
- Alsoft DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory of the external booting disk and the other disks.
Thanks.
