Fine Vertical interface lines on iPhone 5 screen

Hi,

Got a new iPhone 5 replacement device. I didnt notice it for a week or two, but what I did notice last week was that the screen has extremely fine (yest visible to my eye) fine vertical interface lines on display. Once I noticed it, now, I can easily notice it without effort. It is so fine that the Geniuses think I am an insane person 🙂 Phone is under warranty but they ofcourse refused to see what I saw or replace the device.

I compared it with other phones in the store and it is definitely not on those phones. I have had many iPhones and iPhone 5's. These lines take away the retina effect in the dark while watching hi-def photo or a video. But in borad daylight, when there is some distance from the eye, barely noticable. The Apple store Genius's really refused to help. I am wondering if anybody else has noticed the same on their iPhone screen please?

The Genius only restored the phone hoping to hear from me that I would say "Its gone" ...but I know 100% that this is display issue. I even challenged them to bring me three phones of same color and I can spot my phone based on display in a few sconds. They acknowledged, but said they cant help. I am bummed about this incident really. I can bet my life on this that there is a display issue here. Not sure what to do about it. Like I said, its a brand new (weeks old) phone. Why would they just not swap and keep a customer happy ? Instead, they behaved like I am going to start arguing with them and cause some trouble...atleast thats how I felt, so I walked away without further discussing the issue, since they seem to not really understand or see the issue with personal attention that they should be giving the customer.

yes, I am an apple fan. I own Macbook pros, iphones, apple tv....so not trying to ... bash apple at all. Not happy with the Geniuses at all. It was funny to hear from the Genius that they ran diagnostics and the phone seems fine. Which diagnostic tells you about "fine" interface lines on screen ? Please educate me. I will put my 18 years of technical experience on the line here.

So, yes, phone was restored, reset, brightness adjusted to various levels to troubleshoot. No luck.

Thank you,

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Same issue here with my iPhone 5s. The lines are very fine enough to be ignored by the Geniuses that there is a problem with the screen. What letter does your serial no. start with? Mine starts with "F"... My year-old iPhone 5 serial no. starts with "C", has a perfect display.

So in essence with regards to quality of screen/display, my iPhone 5s is a downgrade from my i5.. which is frustrating considering the price of the device.

I gave my iPhone 5 up. The vertical lines were even harder to see with iOS7 .. But I upgraded to. 5S. I did call apple and they did offer me a replacement and that would have costed me roughly 26$ . So if in apple warranty, better to call apple support than take it to the genius ... They are not really a genius as you can expect :) many of them will even give wrong answers. Some are passionate and they know their stuff... But many are not worth dealing with delicate issues like these:)
