Q: SD Card not being recognized by macbook air. what do i do?

I have a Nikon D5100 and i was taking some photos and videos outside. so like any other person, i put in the sd card into the slot, but it doesn't recongnize the sd card! this is really annoying me. also, the camera-to-computer usb isn't working either! it was just working last week so what's the problem?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), I always have the latest version.

1. Does it show up in Disk Utility?

If so, do you have Finder's preferences set to show external disks on the desktop?

Another thing that might help is to open the Image Capture app.

It is in your Applications folder. You might try opening the app yourself, then inserting the SD card.

Sadly, none of these worked. On the Image Capture app, nothing showed up (I have a SanDisk Ultra 8GB SD Card)
