Uploaded videos with iMovie 8 and now don't show up in library.

I just uploaded some videos with iMovie 8 and now it doesn't list them in the Events library. When I tried to import the files (they are on the harddrive in the iMovie folder) it says the files are not compatible with iMovie. To be clear - I didn't transfer files, the files are on miniDV and I had to upload them in real time. Thoughts?
