Ipod Classic not working and will not connect to computer

My ipod classic is displaying the red ' x ' and gives the URL www.apple.com/support/ipod. When i plug it into the computer it wont show up on itunes on either my mac or pc. And i have tried using other cables etc

Resolution

Restore iPod from Disk Mode

  1. Disconnect iPod from your computer.
  2. Manually put iPod into Disk Mode.
  3. Open the latest version of iTunes and connect iPod.
  4. Restore iPod.
