Will AppleCare give me an unlocked phone?

I originally purchased an iPhone 4S from AT&T on a 2 year contract with applecare protection. I had the phone unlocked to use on another GSM provider in the USA. The other day I dropped the phone and cracked the back glass. I want to use my AppleCare and get a replacement but I'm wondering if they will replace the phone with an unlocked version? Has anyone found themselves in the same situation before?
