Q: Second Gen AEBS running and Airport Utility 6.3

My Airport Utility software got an automatic update an hour ago and now it cannot access the AEBS (MB053LL/A - A1143).

I am on-line wirelessly ok but can't get into the AEBS with the new software to add an Access Control MAC address.  I also cannot replace the 6.3 software version with the older version using Time Machine back-up as it says Apple requires this software and cancels the restore..

Help or suggestions on how to proceed?

Tnx.

I just updated to AirPort Utility 6.3 and it cannot see either of my 2 Airport Extreme base stations. They are working and I'm online but they simply do not show up in the utility. It just sits there and spins the "working" wheel. Very frustrating.

Running MacOS 10.8.3. The previous utility worked fine and I used it earlier today. To make matters worse, MacOS won't let me remove the new utility and install the previous one.

You will need to rename the older Airport Utility (v6.2) to something like Airport Utility 6.2.  Then you may copy it to the Utility folder and run it.  The Apple system won't let you rename the Airport Utility that is installed and in use.  You can have older versions in the utilty folder as long as they have a different name.

Thanks. I restored v6.2 to my desktop from my TimeMachine backup for the time being. It works fine. Guess I'll wait until Apple fixes before using 6.3.

Be sure that you have, at least, IPv6 enabled as "Link-local only" on both your Mac and the AirPort base station. It appears that version 6.3 requires IPv6 to communicate with the base stations.

    For your Mac:

    • System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6: Link-local only
    • Verify that your Mac is now getting an IPv6 IP address assigned.
