Ipod touch 4th generation has the steel back, The length is shorter than the new versions. It doesnt have the flash with the camera, it has an external speaker unlike some older models, and it also has a camera unlike some older models.
If it has a camera and the back is a chrome silver, then it's an iPod touch forth generation.
