Home Folder's equivalent in Windows?

Hello everybody,
I am currently planning to make the switch to mac this summer and I have a question about the Home folder. Is it the same as the C: drive in Windows? For that matter, clicking the hard disk icon on the desktop is like going to My Computer right? Are Applications stored in the Home Folder or is it just for documents, music, photos, etc.? I am just trying to find equivalents on both operating systems to make the switch easier and make sure I don't mess anything up at first. If there is anything anyone can add beyond my questions that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help at all.

Hi dissolved,

Your hard drive icon on a Mac is equivalent to the C: drive. You can have more than one, equivalent to a D; drive, etc. An inserted optical disk shows up too, like the "floating" CD drive letter in Windows.

Applications are in an Applications folder, similar to the Program Files folder in Windows.

The home folder is equivalent to the Windows folder named for your account in Documents and Settings. It's for anything private to you and not shared with other users of the computer. For most people that's only documents, photos, etc. But you can put applications in your home folder if you use something no one else does and want to keep it that way.

There is an equivalent to My Computer, though the Mac version includes less information.

Good luck!

John
